It makes so much more sense now. How the whole market crashed.... But as I watched that film, it just made me increasingly sadder…
It showed me more about the way our fellow human being thinks. Well, none of us are perfect and I understand that. I understand that as we grow up and experience life we are affected in many ways. The experiences we have shape the way we think, what we choose to value, what we choose to focus our attention and efforts on. And often a lot of those lessons have to do with the value of money. Having it or the lack thereof determines many things in this system we currently live in.
One of the truest moments of the film, to me, was when Ben, Brad Pitt's character, told his two associates not to dance for joy over the deal they just made. His reason… because with every dollar they made there where consequences that the American people would have to endure. At the end of the film before the credits roll out, we are told that CDOs (which are largely what made the economy collapse) are still in existence just under a new name.
So, what have we learned as a society?
I am really not here to discuss the economic aspect of it all. What the movie mostly showed me was the heart of our society. What we as people value. And the thing is that we should not say, "well I am not like that", and just leave it at that because even when one human being thinks and acts out of values such as were seen in the film, we are all impacted. We each should care what the person sitting next to us values.
Ultimately what I want to say is that as humans we should each ensure that our actions, our intentions and everything that we are demonstrate care, concern, and love to our fellow human being. If not those things we see in the film will continue and intensify.
